Honest comparison for home service and trade businesses
A Housecall Pro alternative, with the trade-offs spelled out.
By Ethan Mason, founder of Beyond Wealth (Salt Lake City, Utah). Competitor details checked Nov 6, 2026 on the sources listed at the bottom. We sell the Business Suite, so weigh our view with that in mind.
Short answer
On list price, Housecall Pro is cheaper for most teams under 8 people. Its Basic plan is $79 a month for 1 user ($59 billed yearly) and Essentials is $189 for 5 users ($149 yearly). The Business Suite is $80 for Starter and $197 for Growth. From 9 people on monthly billing (10 if you prepay yearly) the gap turns around: Housecall Pro Max covers 8 users for $329 and adds $35 per extra user, while Business Suite Scale is $341 for up to 15 crew members.
The bigger difference is which tools sit on which plan. On Housecall Pro, recurring service plans are on Max only. On the Business Suite, service plans, contracts with e-signature, forms and expense tracking are on every plan. Housecall Pro is the better pick if you want card payments and financing built in, route planning and GPS, photo reports or QuickBooks Online sync.
Why owners look at a Housecall Pro alternative.
Housecall Pro is a well-built field service app, and plenty of crews are happy on it. When owners shop around, it is usually about how the plans are cut, not about the software being bad:
- The tool you need sits one plan up. On the Housecall Pro pricing page, routes, checklists, GPS tracking and QuickBooks Online sync start on Essentials. Recurring service plans, route optimization and the sales proposal tool are on Max. If you sell maintenance plans, you are on Max.
- Users are capped per plan. Basic includes 1 user, Essentials 5 and Max 8. After 8, each extra user is $35 a month.
- Intro prices end. The page shows first-month and first-3-month promotional prices. Budget on the regular price, not the promo.
None of that is unusual. Most job apps price by seat and by plan step. It just means the plan you look at first is often not the plan you end up paying for.

Housecall Pro figures from housecallpro.com/pricing, checked Nov 6, 2026. The page lists two prices per plan without saying which is which; we matched them using its “Saving” amounts and the “(Billed annually)” tag next to Basic’s $59. The 10 and 15 person rows are our math using the $35 per extra user listed on Max, assuming it applies to both billing options. Housecall Pro counts users; we count people on the crew jobs page (add yourself if you work jobs), which is close but not identical.

Housecall Pro features as listed on its pricing page, checked Nov 6, 2026. “Not listed” means we did not see it on that page; it may be sold elsewhere or as an add-on. Texting on the Business Suite runs on your own Twilio number at Twilio’s rates; PayPal’s standard fees apply to payments.
Recurring work, side by side.
Recurring work is where the two apps differ the most, so here is how it works on the Business Suite in plain terms.
- Repeating jobs. Any job can repeat every week, every 2 weeks or every month, with an optional end date. Each visit shows up on the schedule and on the crew member’s phone with the same address, checklist and notes. You can move or cancel one visit without touching the rest, and stopping the series removes future visits nobody has started. You can run up to 100 repeating jobs at a time.
- Service plans. A plan bills the customer on its own through PayPal, every 1 to 52 weeks, 1 to 24 months or 1 to 5 years, straight into your own PayPal account. The customer subscribes from a private link you send.
- Follow-up. Switch on the past-customer automation and customers with no activity for 6 months get a check-in email with your booking link, if they gave email permission.
On Housecall Pro, recurring service plans are a Max feature. If maintenance plans are a big part of your income, compare the Business Suite against Max, not Essentials.
Which one fits you.
Stay with Housecall Pro if
- You take cards in the field or offer financing, and want it all in one app.
- You run many stops a day and want routes, GPS tracking or route optimization.
- You send photo reports to customers or need QuickBooks Online sync.
- You can prepay a year for the lower price, or you work alone and Basic covers you.
- Your team already knows it. Switching costs real time.
Try the Business Suite if
- You sell maintenance plans and don’t want to move up to Max to do it.
- You want contracts with e-signature, forms, and expenses with receipt photos in the same app as your jobs.
- You have 9 to 15 people and want one flat price for the crew page.
- You want setup help from a real person in Utah: on Growth we set up your booking page and first form with you; on Scale we move your contacts and jobs in for you.
Where we are honestly behind.
- Payments are PayPal only. No card reader, tap-to-pay or customer financing. Money lands in your own PayPal account.
- No routing or GPS. You set the order of the day by start time, and each stop has an Open in Maps button. The app does not work out the shortest route or track where crews are.
- No photo reports on jobs, and no QuickBooks sync. The Money tab exports a spreadsheet for tax time instead.
- Texting needs a Twilio account. You connect your own Twilio number and Twilio bills you directly. Until then you get one-tap text links that send from your own phone.
- No app-store app. Crew members open a private link on their phone; owners can add the web app to the home screen.
- We are small. Beyond Wealth is a founder-led company in Salt Lake City. You can reach the founder directly, and there is a smaller team behind it than Housecall Pro’s.
How to switch without losing a week.
- Export your customer list from Housecall Pro as a spreadsheet (CSV). If you can’t find the export, ask their support for one. Our CRM migration guide lists what to check.
- Start the 3-day trial for $8, import the spreadsheet, and set your services and booking hours.
- Rebuild your repeating jobs and service plans first, since that is where the money comes from. Send each plan customer their new plan link before the old plan bills again.
- Move your crew by sending each person their private jobs link.
- Cancel the old plan once open invoices are paid. On Scale, we move your contacts and jobs in for you.

Questions owners ask.
Is the Business Suite cheaper than Housecall Pro?
Not for most small teams. Housecall Pro Basic is $79 a month for 1 user and Essentials is $189 for 5 users with monthly billing, versus $80 for Business Suite Starter and $197 for Growth. From 9 people on monthly billing, or 10 billed yearly, Housecall Pro Max plus extra users costs more than Business Suite Scale at $341 for up to 15 crew members. Prices checked Nov 6, 2026.
Does the Business Suite have recurring service plans?
Yes, on every plan. A service plan bills your customer through PayPal on a schedule you choose, and repeating jobs put the visits on the schedule every week, every 2 weeks or every month. On Housecall Pro, recurring service plans are listed on the Max plan.
Can my crew see their jobs on their phone?
Yes. Each crew member gets a private link with their jobs for today and the next 6 days: address with an Open in Maps button, checklist, notes, an on-my-way text, clock in and out, and a done button. There is nothing to download.
Can customers pay by card?
They pay through PayPal pay links on quotes, invoices and service plans, which accept cards through PayPal. There is no card reader or financing. If you need those in the same app, Housecall Pro includes payments and financing on its plans.
Can I move my customers over from Housecall Pro?
Yes. Export your customer list as a spreadsheet and import it. On the Scale plan we move your contacts and jobs in for you.
Is there a contract?
No. The Business Suite is billed monthly, with no contract, cancel anytime from your account. Cancelling stops future charges and you keep access through the time you already paid for. The 3-day trial is $8 once and never renews on its own.
